The real traitors are the rulers: Bahu

Vi_Karanaratne_140 Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne said that the real traitors were those betrayed the country by selling its resources to international organisations.

“Recently the President had referred to me by saying that I tarnished the image of the country by going for the TESO conference in Chennai. I have to remind him that the real traitors are those have betrayed our beloved country to the IMF and the World Bank. It is those people who have pawned this country to international entities who are the real traitors” he said.

Speaking at a rally organized by the movement to restore the rule of law together with Political leaders and civil rights activists including UNP Leader Ranil Wickeremesinghe, Lawyer J.C Weliamuna and a host of other leaders, Dr. Karunaratne specifically referred to the controversy surrounding his participation at the TESO conference, in Tamil Nadu.

Karunaratne went on to say that during his speech in Tamil Nadu he had reiterated that it was not only the Tamil speaking people who were affected by the current government but the whole country.

“This government is in total disrepute in the whole country and its not confined to the Tamil speaking people. All the people are against dictatorship and it’s not only the Tamils who are facing the wrath of the regime,” he said.

He said that during his speech at the conference he had said that the LLRC recommendations should be implemented.

“I stated that the LLRC recommendations must be implemented. Many people are using the word ‘Eelam’ to connote  a separate state. But that’s not what it actually means, just like the President says he is from Ruhuna, people from the North and East have devised the term Eelam and it does not connote a separate state. We have to talk about these Eelam Tamils due to the actions of the current rulers,” he said.

The leftist leader reiterated that he did not fear to speak of the betrayal by the current rulers anywhere in the world.

“I will speak about it in this country or India or, for that matter, anywhere in the world” he said. (Hafeel Farisz)
