Delegation urges PM to ensure ceasefire in Sri Lanka: Ramadoss

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder-leader S Ramadoss said the all-party delegation led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and appealed to him to initiate quick to ensure ceasefire on Lankan Tamils.

Talking to newspersons after reaching Chennai Airport at 2030 hrs by an Indian Airlines flight, Dr Ramadoss said Dr Singh assured the delegation that he would speak to the Lankan Government to solve the ethnic crisis and facilitate the peace process.

He said the PMK members separately urged the Prime Minister to take steps with the United Nations Organisation (UNO) to ensure the stoppage of war on Tamils in the island nation by the Lankan Army.
The Prime Minister was also urged to strengthen the coastal guards in South India, especially in Tamil Nadu, and pave way for the safety of fishermen living in south, he added.

The PMK leader said the Chief Minister, in a separate meeting with Dr Singh, stressed on the gravity of the situation in Sri Lanka and the need for a declaration ceasefire at the earliest to provide peaceful existence for Tamils.
