Ask Lankan minister to say sorry for calling us jokers: Vaiko to Centre

vaiko Sharply reacting to alleged remarks by Sri Lankan Army Chief Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka, describing Tamil Nadu politicans as ‘jokers’, MDMK leader Vaiko has asked the Centre to summon the island’s foreign minister and seek an unconditional apology.

Speaking to reporters in the Madras High Court complex, he said that the Lt General’s statement was humiliating and insulting to the people of the state.

Claiming that it reflected the mind of Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he said Rajapaksa should also tender an apology. He wanted the Centre to take effective steps to secure an unconditional apology for the ‘outrageous’ statement.

He said his party would launch an agitation before the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission here from December 10, demanding an apology from the Island’s President and Army chief.
