Four seek humanitarian protection with HRC in Jaffna

Four Tamil civilians in Jaffna have sought protection with the Human Rights Comission in Jaffna due to threats to their lives, especially after the worsening situation in Vara’ni in Thenmaraadchi following the recent abductions of two youths.

Three farmers from Vara’ni North, a 26-year-old man, his 25-year-old brother and another 28-year-old family man, and a 20-year-old daily wage earner from Vadamaraadchi North were the persons who have sought asylum with the Human Rights Commission in Jaffna.

The four civilians are to be placed in protective custody in Jaffna prison after producing them at the courts through the police, the officials at the Human Rights Commission in Jaffna said.
