Pranab will visit Colombo ‘at an appropriate time’: Baalu

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will visit Colombo ‘at an appropriate time’ to press for a ceasefire and bring a halt to the hostilities against innocent Tamils by the Lankan Military, Union Shipping and Transport Minister T R Baalu said today.

”He (Pranab) will surely visit Sri Lanka, but at an appropriate time to prevail upon the Lankan Government for immediate ceasefire,” Mr Baalu told reporters here.

The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu had passed a resolution at its recent meeting urging the Centre to depute Mr Mukherjee to Colombo to press for immediate ceasefire and to stop killing of innocent Tamils in the wake of heightened hostilities between Lankan Military and LTTE.

The Centre had already told the Lankan Government about its decision to depute Mr Mukherjee.
”The Sri Lankan Government was yet to react to it. It had neither extended an invitatation to Mr Mukherjee to visit Colombo,” Mr Baalu said and added that the External Affairs Minister was very busy in handling the November 26 terror attacks in Mumbai.
