Civilians trapped in SLA artillery barrage

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) fired artillery shells hit civilian settlements in Vaddakkachchi, killing a 56-year-old father and caused injuries to his 16-year-old son. Meanwhile, a 76-year-old elderly man residing in an elderly home sustained injuries Friday night after he returned home unable to reach Tharmapuram as Kaddaikkaadu Road (Vaddakkachchi – Tharmapuram Road) was continuously targeted by the shelling. In the meantime another male was killed in SLA shelling at Chu’ndikku’lam on Friday.

The civilian killed in Chu’ndikku’lam was identified as Sinnarasa and the 56-year-old father who was killed while he was trapped in Vaddakkachchi was identified as Ratnasingam. His son, Sukirthan Ratnasingam, sustained injuries.

The elderly man wounded in Vaddakkachi was identified as Sellathurai Poopalasingam.
57-year-old mother, Sundaralingam Sarasamma, sustained injuries in SLA shelling on Saturday at Kalmadu in Vaddakkachchi, according to medical sources.
