Thirumavalavan begins indefinite fast on Lankan issue

Thirumavalavan 43657  With a view to mounting pressure on India, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan, a strong supporter of the Eelam Tamils, today began an indefinite fast demanding immediate cessation of hostilities and initiate peace process in the strife-torn Sri Lanka.

More than 1,000 VCK workers, and leaders of various organisations, espousing the cause of Tamils, attended the fast, being held at Maraimalainagar, about 55 km from city.

The fast was initially planned in front of the Chepauk guest House in the city. ”But we changed it in the last minute as we expect huge crowd. Several leaders are also expected to visit Mr Thirumaavalavan continuously”, VCK sources told UNI.

”We shifted the venue due to space constraints as we felt that the space in front of Chepauk Guest House cannot accommodate large crows”, the sources added.

The fast was to wake up the Indian government to understand the prevailing ground realities in the Island Nation, where Tamils were being killed by the Military troops in the name of war and terrorism.

”Stop genocide and initiate peace process is our demand”, the sources said.
