Tamil Nadu needs to forge an Eezham front

It is time that like-minded political parties, civil groups, social activists, student organizations and cultural institutions of Tamil Nadu jointly forge a mass movement under one umbrella and aim to achieve independence and sovereignty for Eezham Tamils, urged a large number of mails received by TamilNet from India, Eezham and the Tamil diaspora all over the world in the last ten days in response to the call of TamilNet for opinion. "The front should face the forthcoming elections in Tamil Nadu on the question of achieving an independent and sovereign nation state for Eezham Tamils, in no uncertain terms, and get the mandate from the people", the mails further urged.

The feature presented here is the third of the series of edited compilation of views received from readers in response to the call of TamilNet on 16 January, 2009.

Tamil Nadu needs to forge an Eezham front

Such a move is a positive first step, democratic in means and legal in international precedence to materialize the recognition of India and the international community for the nation state of Eezham Tamils.

The major impediment for a political solution to the crisis in the island of Sri Lanka is the ambiguity on the model for political solution.

The Sri Lankan state, India and the international community miserably failed in the last quarter a century in successfully conceiving and implementing a political solution other than secession.

In their frustration they have now resorted to a brutal military solution of genocide and military subjugation of Tamils, citing the LTTE as an excuse.

They may think that playing the card of the ethnic majority in the island is safe, but they have a wrong notion of the nature of the ethnic majority in the island, cultivated in the colonial and post colonial times, based on psychologically indelible images from history.

In the process of abetting a war against Tamil nationalism in the island, the involved parties have only contributed to the deterioration of democratic institutions, militarization and rise of totalitarianism in the island.

For the first time in the history of modern South Asia, it has so happened that all the authoritarian forces of the world have joined hands in allowing and abetting the military subjugation of a people by their adversaries, without international safeguards and monitoring.

This is virtually enacting scenes of Africa in South Asia. Setting the act of genocide on one of the ancient cultures of humanity by another ancient culture of South Asia is premeditated at creating a catastrophe in the region.

The precarious situation is actually paving way on one hand for a corporate conquest of the island to make further inroads into South Asia, and on the other hand for elements wish to destabilize South Asia to infiltrate.

Obviously Tamil Nadu is in the forefront of affliction and needs to be awakened.
In the given circumstances, for all practical purposes, creation of an independent, sovereign nation state for Eezham Tamils is the only way to diffuse tension in the region.

It is humanitarian and is a historical logic.

Above all, it is the only way to bring back democracy to Eezham Tamils as well as to Sinhalese and to engage them in a healthy competition of ‘nationally orientated development’.

It is in fact a move to liberate both Eezham Tamils and the Sinhalese from totalitarianism secretly conceived by elements aspiring for global domination.
As for Tamil Nadu it is not merely an act of Tamil sentiment.

It is a process of awakening the masses for a noble cause, awakening of democracy and human rights, inspiration to the oppressed and elimination of opportunists and elements of vested interests from the mainstream of Tamil politics.

Tamil Nadu and its people will be tremendously benefited by this exercise, which is no less than a political, social and cultural revolution revitalizing the Tamil civilization and its broad humanitarian potent.

Needless to say that this is to protect the interests of the peoples of India, to uphold their righteous prestige in the global community, to eliminate a perpetual blackmailing and to facilitate smooth integration of the region of South Asia.
It is a duty of civilization as well as self-interest of the people of Tamil Nadu to take up the matter into their hands, if the few who have hijacked Indian democracy and sitting in Delhi are misleading the nation and humanity.
