SLA launch large scale cordon, search in Vadamaraadchi

Hundreds of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers conducted a large scale cordon and search from early morning Wednesday till evening in Karaveddi area in Vadmaraadchi, sources in Vadamaraadchi said. The religious rites for the local ICRC employee killed recently which took place at his house in Rajakiraamam in Karaveddi Wednesday where many people had gathered may have triggered the SLA search, the sources said.

SLA soldiers confiscated the National Identity Cards of the residents of Rajakiramam and Kara’navaay and had gathered all of them in public places where they were subjected to rigorous checking and interrogation, the sources added.

No information is available of anyone being arrested during the search.

The SLA cordon and search conducted in Rajakiraamam where people had gathered to attend the religious rites of the ICRC employee killed has raised fear among the residents of Karaveddi.
