10 rebels killed in Sri Lanka clashes

At least 10 LTTE cadres were killed in fierce clashes with Sri Lankan troops in the island’s embattled north, where the security forces aimed to capture the rebels’ last key bastion of Pudukudiruppu.

 

Security forces had several confrontations with the LTTE in general area of Puthukudiruppu in Mullaittivu inflicting, heavy damage on the rebels on Thursday, the Defence Ministry said. Snipers deployed by the army gunned down four LTTE rebels ahead of the defence line, a military report received from the battlefront said.

 

Troops operating in the Puthukkudiyiruppu area confronted with the LTTE, causing heavy damage to the rebels, the ministry quoted a military report as saying. During a clearing operation, security forces recovered a few weapons left behind by the Tigers in the region.
