Centre ‘mute spectator’ to ‘genocide’ in Sri Lanka: Sarath Kumar

A number of Tamil Nadu’s Samathuva Makkal Katchi activists on Wednesday staged a demonstration here demanding India’s intervention for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka where government forces and LTTE are locked in an intense battle.

The activists led by party chief and actor R Sarath Kumar held a demonstration and shouted slogans against the Centre for being a "mute spectator" to the "genocide" in the island nation.

"The Central Government has not taken any steps to stop the war in Sri Lanka. Even the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu is not pressuring the Centre due to its obsession with power," Kumar said. He also said both Sri Lanka and India should revoke the ban imposed on LTTE to facilitate the organisation to participate in negotiations.
