599 killed, 3350 injured inside ‘safety zone’ since last UN statement

[TamilNet, Saturday, 11 April 2009 07:24 2 Comments]

Hospital records alone have registered 599 civilians killed and 3,350 injured inside the so-called safety zone, since the last UN statement on casualties on 13 March. But, the actual number of civilians killed could exceed 1,500 as many of the bodies were not brought to the hospital to be counted and buried, said medical officials in Vanni on Friday. The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) is stationed just 800 meters away from the hospital. Even in the other parts of the safety zone, the army is barely 1 – 1.5 km away, the medical sources said.

The civilian casualty figures for the last 3 days, as on Friday noon follows:

Wednesday: 50 killed, 296 injured Thursday: 52 killed, 315 injured. Friday: 12 dead, 50 injured
3,944 injured have been taken to Trincomalee through ICRC ship during the month of March.

Fundamental Right to Live in Eelam Denied; Tamils Protest in London Again.
In 1799 June, Sir Hugh Cleghorn, the first British Colonial Secretary wrote to the British Government…
Two different nations from a very ancient period have divided between them the possession of the Island. First the Sinhalese, inhabiting the interior of the country in its Southern and Western parts, and secondly the Malabars (Tamils) who possess the Northern and Eastern Districts. These two nations differ entirely in their religion, language and manners
A Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom, Dr. Rachel Joyce, apologised for the error of Colonial Britain in making a unitary Ceylon out of two nations, the Tamils and the Sinhalese, now resulted in blood bath in the eastern Srilanka. Over 75,000 Tamils died in the past 61 years as a result of ill fated constitution and democratisation since independence in 1948. Can you blame the Tamils for this great injustice and the blunder resulted with the whole Tamil population displaced as refugees and killed in Srilanka. Military solution resulting in mass killing of Tamils in the north east of Srilanka. Only solution is to go back to the basic and recognize Tamils right to live in their own country as Tamils. Fundamental right to live in their historic homeland Eelam is denied today by the majority Sinhalese under a smoke screen of “democracy” conveniently targeted the whole Tamil population as ‘terrorist’.

This is only an official figure. What goes unnoticed is unreported killings, arson, plunder, looting and rape of Tamils by the AriLankan Army, under cover of fighting LTTE.This has to stop forthwith.IC must impose sanctions on SriLanka. This is much more serious than NKorea testfiring missile.Security Council sees it fit to pass a resolution(in the making to day), but not on Genocide in SriLanka.Tamils should protest in Washington to pressurise US to take action.
Coming to Rasty’s comment, if people go back in Time as to who inhabited where, many Nations will not exist today.Time that SriLankan Tamils realise they have a fair chance of getting Devolution of powers at most.Demand of any thing more than that, is wishful thinking and will result in unmitigated disaster.
Also LTTE has to be shunned and be sidelined by the tamil Community if they want to arrive at a solution to SriLankan Tamils Problem.
