Following the British Tamil protestors in Westminster this week, Virendra Sharma MP and a number of MPs have written to the Leader of the House of Commons requesting that she make representations to the Speaker of the House of Commons for a recall of Parliament to discuss the growing conflict.
Virendra Sharma is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils, he has written to Harriet Harman:
‘We, the undersigned, are writing to you in regards to the ongoing conflict in Sri Lanka. The protests in Westminster recently have provided us with a stark reminder of the terrifying situation which is continuing in the country.
The conflict has resulted in hundreds of thousands of casualties and fatalities. Violence in the country has recently increased dramatically, 3000 people have died since December.
Due to the urgency of the situation, we call on you on behalf of the Government to make representations to the Speaker of the House of Commons to recall Parliament.
We believe that it is of the utmost importance that Parliament acts immediately to take action on this issue.
