‘Empty statements of IC evoke fury in the diaspora’: Oslo hunger striker

The whole concept of peace facilitation will become a mockery and no peace facilitation will hereafter be seen with credibility in the world, if Norway fails in its ‘responsibility’ in stopping civilian tragedy in Sri Lanka, said 51 years old Sri Navaratnam, the leader of Norway Tamil Sangam (association), who commenced an indefinite fast in Oslo, Monday, demanding Norway bringing out immediate ceasefire, negotiations between LTTE and GoSL, not sending civilians to camps but resettling them and Norway recognizing the self-determination of Eezham Tamils. Mr. Navaratnam was furious of empty statements coming from IC and said such statements without action only infuriate the already traumatised people.

Talking to TamilNet on Tuesday and reflecting on the news of SLA advancing into the safety zone using civilians as cover, Mr Navaratnam said: “Colombo, international community, international organizations and the international media have all this time been blaring about LTTE exploiting the civilians as a shield. But, the real deployment of the civilian shield, against the wishes of the civilians has started now”.

According to Mr. Navaratnam, the real human shield is going to be seen in several different ways, exploited by genocidal Colombo and the International Community:
“Soon, Colombo will be using the plight of the civilians in its concentration camps as an effective shield to demand money in the name of their rehabilitation, but only to bail out the economy of the genocidal state.

"The international community, which systematically and deliberately destroyed the defences of the oppressed Tamils to pave way for the genocide, and to the last minute abetting the genocide, will soon be seen using the civilian shield to justify its development onslaught of the country.

"The international media, especially some of them operating in Colombo, shamelessly sabotage news on the brutality committed on the civilians and pretend no knowledge of the actual plight of the civilians, saying there are no ‘independent sources to verify’. But they don’t hesitate to eulogise the exploits of Colombo’s genocidal army, Rajapaksa’s farce of ‘hostage evacuation’ and to create images of relief that the Tamil struggle for homeland is decisively over. Once the civilians are in Colombo’s hands, this same media will be found jumping at using the plight of them as shield for their journalistic exploits.

"Tamils need a careful scrutiny of these elements in spearheading the next phase of their struggle”, Navaratnam said.
