PM assures Karunanidhi on Lankan Tamils issue

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has once again assured Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who is on an indefinite fast demanding immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka, of his intervention on the Lankan Tamils issue saying the Centre was working to end the conflict soon.

Official sources said Dr Singh spoke to the octogenarian leader, after a couple of hours he launched the fast at Anna Memorial here at 0600 hrs today.

During the telephonic conversation, the Prime Minister assured Mr Karunanidhi that the Indian Government was in constant touch with its Sri Lankan counterpart on the issue.
