Eezham: An eye-opener!

image Eezham is a short documentary scripted, directed and produced by M. Jagan. With a view to offer the facts regarding a topical issue, the documentary goes back to the kings’ reign in Sri Lanka, how a non-violent struggle transformed into a violent weapon-oriented one, the interference of the army, Rajiv Gandhi’s assasination, Tsunami and its disaster till the recent Muthukumar suicide.

At the end of the documentary, there is a short film strip ‘Eezhathu Veedu’ that talks about the state of a eight-year old boy who loses his place of shelter to the army’s grenades. Along with his father, he arrives at the Rameshwaram border as a refugee. As his father explains their tale of woe and warfare to a foreigner there, the boy reaches out and joins a small girl who is building castles in the beach sand. The film ends with a title card quizzing people about the time before the boy loses his innocence and get drawn into the battlefield. Gopal has handled the camera, Sastha has composed music and Rajiv has edited the documentary.

On April 18th, the CD was released by Tamil Tigers Association President Thol. Thirumavalavan and recieved by DMK’s South Chennai candidate R.S. Bharathi. Thamarai Ammaiyar, Subha Veerapandian and poet Arivumadhi were also present on the occasion.
