Stockholm – Sweden on Monday urged the government of Sri Lanka to allow international relief agencies "immediate access" to areas formerly controlled by the Tamil rebels. Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said in a statement that "now that the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) have been defeated, the government of Sri Lanka has to offer immediate access to international relief agencies," adding that it was also necessary for Colombo to work for "genuine national reconciliation."
