Sri Lanka Police questions TNA MP

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian, Mr.S.Kanagaretnam, was taken for questioning by the Sri Lanka police from Chettikulam internment camp Thursday morning, sources in Vavuniyaa said. Kanagaratnam arrived with his family from Mu’l’li-vaaykkaal area to Omanthai with IDPs when the military operation of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) forced the IDPs from the Safety Zone.

The TNA MP stayed with his family in Omanthai IDP camp as authorities were reported to have failed to identify him as the parliamentarian representing Mullaitheivu district.

Later, however, he was sent to Chettikulam IDP camp with his family when his identity was established.

Meanwhile, other TNA parliamentarians sought the intervention of the Parliament Speaker to locate the missing parliamentarian after the fall of Vanni to SLA.

A special police team from Colombo went to Vavuniyaa on receipt of information and took him to Colombo for further questioning, leaving his family in Chettikulam, TNA sources said.
