Karuna asks PM to take ‘appropriate decision’ on SL resolution

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take "appropriate decision" on the draft resolution presented by the Sri Lankan government to the UN Human Rights Council, saying it was "largely against interest of the Lankan Tamils".

In a letter to Singh, a copy of which was released here, he said "it is widely believed by millions of Tamils spread all over the world that the draft resolution now presented by the Sri Lankan Government to UNHRC is largely against the interest of Sri Lankan Tamils. Hence,I kindly request you to take appropriate decision in this regard, having in mind the sentiments of the Sri Lankan Tamils and their future welfare".

"Though there is one side a question of interfering in the internal affairs of a country, which would affect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, Sri Lanka should be treated as a special case", he said.
