LTTE should have been nipped in formative years: Sri Lanka

Vowing that "terrorism will be completely rooted out", the Sri Lankan Prime Minister on Tuesday said it was a "mistake" that LTTE was not nipped in its formative years.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said though the Sri Lankans never believed in celebrating the death of any person, in the case of killing of LTTE Supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran everyone rejoiced his death because he was a "murderer" and continued with terrorism for 30-long years.

He said it was a mistake that the LTTE terrorism was not nipped in the bud in the earlier years, as it went on for a prolonged period and had become a "tree and had to be chopped off with an axe".
