SLA Intelligence Unit behind abduction, murder of Bank official

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) arrested a captain and four soldiers from the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Intelligence Unit, Friday, in connection with the abduction and murder of Peoples’ Bank Kollupitiya branch assistant manager, Mr Gunasinghe Premathilake, police said.

Mr Gunasinghe was abducted from Kollupitiya in a white van on the April 1 2009.

Later, on April 4, the police recovered the body of the victim, near a bridge at Labugama in Kosgama Police area in Colombo District.

The police arrested SLA Intelligence Unit, Captain Dhammika Lalith Pitawala, Corporal Chaminda Kumara Samarakoon, Corporal Vithanage Priyantha Kumara, Soldier Herath Mudiyanselage Chaminda, and Soldier Pothupitige Don Saman Padmakumara, alleging complicity in the abduction and murder of the Bank Manager.
