Sinhala IDP families to be resettled in Weli-Oya sector by August 31

Government has decided to resettle thousands of Sinhala families displaced from the Weli-Oya – Pathaviya sector under the 180-day “Vaddakin Vasantham”(Uthuru Vasanthaya) Program before August 31, Presidential Secretariat sources said Monday according to media reports. Displaced families would be resettled in the Weli-Oya Divisional Secretariat areas such as Kalyanapura, Morawewa, and Gajabhapura before August 31, said Media Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat, Senaka Ubeysinghe, Monday.

Following a Presidential directive to accelerate the process of re-settlement, Senior Presidential Advisor and Chairman of Presidential Task Force, parliamentarian Mr. Basil Rajapakse, announced the decision at a meeting at the Mahaweli Community Training Centre Sunday July (26), 2009, reports added.

Minister of Nation Building Susantha Punchinilame, Governor of the Northern Province Major General G. A. Chandrasiri, Governor of the North Central Province Karunaratne Divulgane, Chief Minister of the North Central Province Bertie Premalal Dissanayake and the District Secretary (GA) of Anuradhapura, H. M. K. Herath attended the discussion.
