130 IDPs in Vavuniyaa camps to be resettled in Jaffna

One hundred and thirty Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) held in Sri Lanka Army (SLA) internment camps in Vavuniyaa are to brought to Jaffna Wednesday to be resettled in places in Jaffna that are out of SLA High Security Zones (HSZ) and in Vadamaraadchi East except Maruthangkea’ni Assistant Government Agent (AGA) division, Jaffna Government Agent (GA), K. Ganesh, informed in a press meet held in Jaffna Secretariat Tuesday. The GA also told the media that he has nothing to do with the forms distributed by persons in Jaffna to apply for resettlement in Jaffna.

Meanwhile, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) in Jaffna alleged that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) chief candidate in Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC) election, R. Ratneswaran, is selling resettlement application forms at 100 rupees per copy to the relatives of IDPs in Vavuniyaa SLA camps, saying that he, being influential with the ruling SLFP, will arrange for the resettlement of IDPs in Jaffna peninsula.

TNA also alleged that N. Yogeswaran, who is said to be the principal of Jaffna Technical College, is functioning as the agent of Ratneswaran who sells the forms at the SLFP office in Jaffna.

It is said that Ratneswaran has sold nearly 6000 forms so far, according to TNA, which has appealed to the people in Jaffna peninsula to avoid being deceived by Ratneswaran.

The GA said that resettlement of IDPs in Jaffna is decided on the data processed by Regional Secretaries and Village Officers of the areas selected for resettlement.
