Headless male corpse washed ashore in the islets of Jaffna

Oorkaavattu’rai police recovered Friday a headless male body in a highly decomposed state in Veala’nai, in the islets of Jaffna, being informed by fishermen going to the seas. Though bodies of Raameasvaram fishermen had been washed ashore recently in the islets of Jaffna, the body recovered Friday seemed not to belong to that group, the police who handed over the remains to Jaffna Teaching Hospital Friday evening, said.

However, bodies of abducted and killed persons being washed ashore in the islets of Jaffna had been common and some of them were found with the heads cut off and this may be such a case, residents in the islets said.

It is to be noted that none has been arrested by the law enforcement authorities who investigated into the cases, they added.

The headless male body now lies unidentified and unclaimed in the mortuary.
