Sivapatham Prasath, a Tamil youth from Mullaitheivu district who gained admission to the medical faculty of the Jaffna University for the academic year 2008 but was unable to enter as he had lost his legs in an artillery shell attack in Mullaitheivu on 08.08.2008, has been detained in an internment camp in Vavuniyaa. He has been refused permission by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) to leave the camp to enter the Jaffna University to join the medical faculty for the academic year 2009 which commenced last week, sources said.

He passed his GCE A/L examination in 2007 with 2 Bs and 1C and qualified to enter the medical faculty of the Jaffna University for the academic year 2008.

Later he was displaced from Mullaiththeevu and fled to Vavuniyaa where he is now detained along with hundreds of thousands of Vanni IDPs.

He tried to enter the medical faculty of the Jaffna University for the 2009 academic year and civil authorities had recommended his application to leave the internment camp to enter the university.
