Sridevi was the dream girl of the 1980s. With her sculpted body and enchanting eyes, she won over the hearts of everyone in Tamil cinema.
She moved to Hindi films, and not surprisingly, won people over with her acting and good looks. When she married producer Boney Kapoor, her acting career came to a close.
After a long gap, Sridevi comes back to acting in a Tamil film, doing the role of Dhanush’s mother-in-law in the re-make of ‘Mapillai.’ Director Suraaj speaks about it.
“I directed Dhanush in ‘Padikkadhavan,’ a Rajini film title. When Dhanush gave an interview, he said he would act only in one more film with a Rajini film title. That is ‘Mappillai.’ Hansika Motwani, a top Telugu heroine, will play the female lead.
I have asked Sridevi to do the mother-in-law role played by Srividya. I told her the story. She says she likes it. She is eager to work in a Tamil film after so many years.
The story is about the clashes between mother-in-law and son-in-law. I have taken the core of the story but evolved a totally new script. As in my other films, importance will be given to comedy.
