National Award for Prakashraj

image Prakashraj has won the National Award for best actor for his acting in ‘Kanjeevaram’ that has won best feature film award.

The awards for 2007 were announced yesterday in Delhi. ‘Kanjeevaram’ gets award for best feature film directed by Priyadarshan with Prakashraj in the main role. The story is about weavers. A silk sari weaver promises to give a silk sari for his daughter’s wedding but the hardships he has to undergo for that forms the film’s story. Prakashraj as the weaver won the best actor award for which Shahrukh Khan was also in the reckoning for his role in ‘Chak De India.’ Prakashraj has earlier won the best supporting actor award for his role in ‘Iruvar.’

Best Tamil film was won by ‘Periyar,’ best animation film by ‘Inimey Naangathaan,’ and ‘Sivaji’ for scenes with special effects. Uma Sri gets the best actress award for her role in ‘Gulabi Talkies’ directed by Girish Kasaravalli.

Malayalam film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan gets best director award for ‘Naalu Pennungal.’ This is his 7th national award. Darshan Zariwala gets best supporting actor award for his role in ‘Gandhi My Father.’ Sharad Goyekar is to receive the Best Child Actor for his performance in the Marathi movie ‘Tingya.’

Shankar Mahadevan gets best singer award. Aamir Khan’s ‘Taare Zameen Par’ gets the Family Welfare Award.
