9 policemen further remanded in Angulana killings

Moratuwa Magistrate Ms. Indika Kalingawansa Friday ordered all nine suspects in the Angulana double murder remanded till September 24. She ruled that 21-year-old Danushka Udaya Shantha Aponsu, whose body was found in the Moratuwa police area, had died of injuries caused by shooting with a rifle. Earlier last week Mt. Lavinia Magistrate Harsha Settunge ruled that the death of Dinesh Tharanga was caused by shooting with a rifle.

The case is being heard in both Mt. Lavinia and Moratuwa Courts as the bodies of the two youths, Dinesh Tharanga and Aponsu, were found in those areas.

The nine suspects include the former OIC of the Angulana police post, P. T. Newton and eight policemen in connection with the killing of the two youths while in the police custody.

Judicial Medical Officers conducted the autopsies on both bodies and submitted their reports to the Magistrates.
