Jaya threatens agitation on Lankan Tamils issue

Alleging "violation" of civil liberties in Sri Lanka, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa today asked the Centre to "ensure life and dignity" of Tamils lodged in various camps in the island nation and threatened to launch a mass agitation if it failed to act immediately.

"The AIADMK and the people of Tamil Nadu, not to speak of the millions of Tamil people scattered all over the globe, expect the Indian government to raise its voice of protest," Jayalalithaa said in a statement here.

Claiming that civilian Tamils of Sri Lanka were languishing in various refugee camps in "abominable conditions", she said the Indian government was expected to ensure their life and dignity.
