Only after bringing the entire Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the islets of Jaffna held in Vavuniyaa camps the IDPs from Vadamaraadchi East will be brought, Jaffna Government Agent (GA), K. Ganesh said. Of around 6,000 Islet IDPs held in Vavuniyaa camps nearly 3,000 have been brought in different batches until Wednesday to the islets of Jaffna where they are again detained in camps under the control of Sri Lanka Navy, sources in Jaffna said.

Around 627 IDPs brought Wednesday are being held in camps in Thoappukkaadu in Kaarainakar and Veala’nai, in the islets of Jaffna.

Thousands of applications have been made to Jaffna to government offices by relatives of the Jaffna IDPs held in Vavuniyaa to take charge of their relatives. The applications are being examined but the IDPs will not be brought immediately to Jaffna, government officials said.

All the Islet IDPs have to be brought to the islets of Jaffna before bringing the IDPs from Jaffna, they said.

Jaffna GA, in the meantime, is taking steps to hold the IDPs from Vadamaraadchi East, in Ampan, Kudaththanai and Ma’natkaadu which were earlier occupied by Sri Lanka Army (SLA).

IDPs from the area which were under Liberation Tigers in Vadamaraadchi East too are to be brought to the above mentioned places.
