Team visit to Sri Lanka an eyewash: Vaiko

The visit of the Tamil MPs’ delegation to camps in Sri Lanka, where the Tamils have been kept for the past five months, is a mere eyewash, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko has alleged.

“The Tamil MPs’ plan to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the end of their visit is a shame,” he said. During an informal chat with reporters after attending a wedding reception at Melapalayam here on Sunday, Mr. Vaiko said that over 3.50 lakh Tamils, who had been kept in electrified barbed wire enclosures over the past five months after hundreds of thousands of Tamils were killed in the war, were suffering a lot as there were no basic amenities.
