Sinhalese to be settled in Muslim village in Ampaa’rai district

The General Secretary of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and parliamentarian M. T. Hassan has requested Ampaa’rai Government Agent to stop appropriation of lands in the Muslim village in Kuduvil by Sri Lanka Wild Life Department, sources in Ampaa’rai said. He further said that Muslim people in the area view this act as a step taken by the government to settle Sinhalese in the lands appropriated.

Wild Life Department is in the process of fencing in the Muslim cemetry in Kuduvil located between Addaa’laichcheanai and Irakkaamam in Ampaa’rai district and they are to extend the fence taking in more lands of the Muslim residents, according to M. T. Hassan.

Wild Life Department officials say that they had taken steps to fence some lands in the village with the consent of concerned Divisional Secretaries.

But Mr. Hassan Ali in his protest had stated that Divisional Secretaries have told him that they were not consulted about fencing large extents of the land in the village.
