SL Government will decide later which election to be held first – President Rajapakse

President Mahinda Rajapakse did not announce which election would take place first, presidential or parliamentary, while addressing the national convention of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), main constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Sunday evening despite wide speculation that he would announce the date for early presidential election. The convention was held at Kettarama Stadium in Colombo.

The government will decide in due course which election should be held first, said Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse.

Majority of delegates attending the convention raised their hands in support of Presidential poll when President Rajapakse questioned them as to which of the elections they wanted first.

President Rajapakse speaking in Tamil repeated his stand after the end of the war that there were no minorities in the country.
