Another batch of IDPs brought to Jaffna, held in Duraiappa Stadium

Despite Jaffna Government Agent’s (GA) recent announcement that all Jaffna IDPs held in Vavuniyaa camps had been brought to Jaffna, a group of them were brought to Jaffna Tuesday night and held in Duraiappah Stadium, Jaffna Secretariat sources said. Sri Lanka Army (SLA) had refused permission for many Jaffna IDPs to enter Jaffna claiming that they were involved in ‘terrorist’ activities. No instructions have been issued by the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry about where the IDPs being held in the Stadium are to be sent to, the sources added.

With the announcement of the forthcoming Presidential election the Rajapaksa government is actively engaged in bringing Jaffna IDPs back to Jaffna.

Friday, 1500 IDPs held in Vavuniyaa camps were brought to Jaffna and detained in Raamaavil camp in Kodikaamam in Thenmaraadchi.

Meanwhile, Jaffna GA, K. Ganesh announced Tuesday night calling all government employees from Jaffna serving in Mullaiththeevu and Ki’linochchi districts in Vanni to be ready to report for duty in Vanni. They were directed to gather in Jaffna city where buses have been arranged to take them to Vanni on Wednesday.

Though it is claimed that permission has been given for resettlement in Ki’linochchi, people are yet to be brought there.
