EP Hindu Association condemns destruction of Hindu temples in the East

Eastern Province Hindu Association (EPHA) has expressed its deep grief and strong condemnation against the theft of the Sivalingam of Akaththiyar Thaapanam at Kangu-veali in Moothoor and the destruction of a Murukan koayil on Kunchithapaatha Malai and the construction of a Buddhist Vihara at its location, in Trincomalee district, in a report released by EPHA president Thiyageswaran. The report called on the Tamil ministers in the Sri Lanka government, the Eastern Province Chief Minister and members of Eastern Provincial Council members to eliminate the current threat to Hindu Religion and to safeguard same.

The theft of the lingam from ancient Akatththiyar Thaapanam during the present peace period gives room to suspect intended attempt to eliminate Hindu worship, the report further said.

The Paala Murkan Koayil on Kunchithapaathamalai located in Ilangkaiththu’rai has been demolished and a new Buddhist Vihara built on the site and this clearly shows that Buddhism is being forced on traditional Tamil areas in a pre-planned manner, it said.

The destruction of Mazhai Neethiyamman temple in Kalladi in Trincomalee district and plans to construct a Buddhist temple in its location too confirm the fear that Buddhism is being systematically entrenched in Tamil homeland, the report said.

The need of the hour is stop Hindu temples in Eastern Province being demolished and Buddhist Viharas built on their sites, it said and pointed out that these incidents have very much hurt the minds of the Hindus in Eastern Province.
