SL Armed Forces personnel in Jaffna show keen interest in postal voting

The personnel of Sri Lanka armed forces stationed in Jaffna and Vanni show keen interest in postal voting in the forthcoming presidential election, Jaffna Election Department sources said. 7 January had been fixed as the last day for postal voting but it had been extended to 19 January.

There are more than 37,000 armed forces personnel in Jaffna district and Vanni and many of them including officers have been invading the Election Department office in Jaffna secretariat in the last few days to register their numbers in the voters list so that they could apply for postal voting.

Jaffna electoral district includes both Jaffna and Ki’linochchi districts.

This keen interest shown by the armed forces personnel in the context of the former Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Commander, Sarath Fonseka contesting in the presidential election has drawn the attention of the public in Jaffna.
