‘Declare Lanka as genocidal state in Assembly’

The May 17 Movement, an organisation formed to voice support for Sri Lankan Tamils, on Tuesday appealed to the government to pass a resolution declaring Sri Lanka as a genocidal state, in the forthcoming Assembly session.

Thirumurugan, an organiser of the movement, told reporters here, “The resolution in the State Assembly, categorically declaring that the island nation was involved in genocide of innocent Tamils in the final phases of Eelam war, would set momentum to its prosecution in international courts.”

He said, “Their own official records substantiate our claim of genocide and everyone knows what had happened in May near Mullivaikal where several thousands of innocent Tamils were butchered by the Lankan army.”
