Tamils staying beyond 30 days in Colombo should report: SL Police

Tamils coming from other countries or from North and East, should register themselves with the Sri Lankan Police in Colombo if they are staying in the city for more than 30 days, Sri Lankan Police Department said in a note to media on Wednesday.

Nimal Mediwaka, senior Deputy Inspector General of Police said the previous ‘rule’ that applied to all Tamils, whether they are from abroad or from the north and east visiting Colombo, was that they should all register themselves with the respective police station as soon as they arrived in Colombo and called the latest announcement a ‘relaxation measure’ of that rule.
