UPF leader Chandrasekaran dies of heart attack

Periyasamy Chandrasekaran, the leader of Up-country People’s Front (UPF) and Minister of Community Development and Social Inequity passed away Friday morning in a private hospital. He was fifty-two years old. Mr. Chandrasekaran was admitted to the hospital following a brief illness.

The UPF had decided to extend its support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the forthcoming presidential election scheduled to be held 26 January.

Tamil dailies published in Colombo on Friday carry UPF advertisements with photographs of Periyasamy Chandrasekaran and President Mahinda Rajapaksa appealing to upcountry people to vote for the later in the presidential election.
