4th pre-election related killing reported from Kurunagala

A 27-year-old person was killed and four others wounded Monday evening in a grenade attack on the residence of a deputy minister in the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government.

The victim killed was identified as Suranga Indrajit.

The grenade was thrown from a passing vehicle at the deputy minister’s residence located in Wehera in the Kurunagala district, Police Media Spokesman I.M.Karunaratne said.

The UPFA election office is located in the residence of Jayaratne Herat who holds the post Deputy Minister of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.

This was the fourth killing in pre-election related violence and took place after a UNP supporter was killed in Wariayapola of the Kurunagala district Sunday early morning.

So far, two supporters of Mahinda Rajapakse, UPFA presidential candidate and two supporters of common opposition candidate General (retd) Sarath Fonseka have been killed in rival pre-election clashes.
