Commonwealth Union observers arrive in Colombo

A Commonwealth Expert Team (CET) with former Jamaican Foreign Minister K.D. Knight has arrived in Colombo to observe Sri Lanka’s presidential poll that is scheduled to be held on January 26.

CET team is comprised of five persons, including its leader. The team is supported by a four-member staff team from the Commonwealth Secretariat.

The CET is mandated to assess the overall conduct of the electoral process and environment in which the election was conducted.

The CET team would act impartially and independently and shall conduct itself according to the standards expressed in the International Declaration of Principles for Election Observation to which the Commonwealth.
