Active voting in Jaffna despite intimidation

Despite a few incidents of bomb explosions, attacks on TNA supporters’ houses Monday night and burning of tyres on some roads in Jaffna people are actively engaged in casting their votes in the presidential election, sources in Jaffna said. Voters who were few in the morning later came in groups to cast their votes and voting continues without any mishaps, the sources added.

People themselves removed the burning tyres which had caused traffic problems.

Meanwhile, the vehicles to be used in election activities were damaged when a bomb exploded in Chu’n’naakam Roman Catholic School polling booth.

No one was hurt in the explosion.

So far no news about anyone being injured or killed in Monday night attacks has surfaced.

Voting continues as police are engaged in security duty at the polling booths.
