image Monday was a memorable day for the lovers of Tamil music, as three experts, ‘Isaignani’ Illayaraja, Oscar winner A R Rahman and Mridangam expert Umayalpuram Sivaraman bagged the Padma Bhushan honours from the Union government.

While the names of Illayaraja and Rahman featured in the list of Padma Bhushan awardees, Sivaraman found a place in the list of Padma Vibushan. They will be honoured by President Pratibha Patil at a function in New Delhi soon.

“When I came out of the recording studio, the entire street was clogged with people. I am pleased. I am immensely happy. What else is there to say? Silence is my message,” the ‘Isaignani’ said, reacting to the award.

He added: “I am extremely delighted. I won’t say that I have received it late. It will come when it has to come.”
