Dengue fever rides high in Jaffna district

Four hundred and fifty five cases of dengue have been detected in Jaffna district from February 1 till last Wednesday while eight hundred and fourteen cases had been reported in the month of January. This shows an increase by about fifty percent, according to Health Ministry official in Colombo.

733 dengue cases have been reported from Colombo and 833 from Gampaha from January 1 till February 17.

Health authorities said the two districts had had high number of cases last year as well.

The total number of dengue cases reported was 6,638 while the number of dengue deaths was 42 since January, ministry official said at a media briefing.
