Jumbo To Go On Diet

2-1-300x189 President Mahinda Rajapaksa is looking at pruning down his jumbo ministerial entourage following April’s parliamentary elections, government sources said.
The decision comes amidst mounting criticism of the massive number of ministers – 132, including  cabinet ministers and deputy ministers.

A confident Rajapaksa, certain that his party is going to win the April elections, has told close confidants that he was going to discount or demote some of the present ministers when appointing the new cabinet after re-election in April because they had not performed up to expectation.

Defeated common opposition candidate Sarath Fonseka just days before the presidential election in January claimed that the upkeep of government ministers was costing Sri Lanka four billion rupees annually.
