Rift in SLFP circles in Jaffna

Mahintha Thilakumara Udugama, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) organizer of Jaffna and Vanni, paid Thursday deposit money to contest as an independent candidate in Jaffna district as he was not included in the SLFP nomination list, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) accused the government for paying money to many independent groups to contest Jaffna district with the view to split the votes in Jaffna peninsula, the sources added.

According to latest information only two seats have been allocated in the SLFP nomination list for Jaffna electoral district to SLFP while 8 to 9 seats have been given to Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) and one for Rizad Badudin’s Muslim party.

An independent group from places like Kanakapuram, Pa’n’nai and Ki’linochchi where people had not been permitted to resettle has paid deposit money to contest Jaffna district with Suntharalingam Sathiyaseelan as its chief candidate.
