Dissolved parliament to be reconvened March 9 to extend Emergency

The dissolved parliament is to be summoned on March 9 to extend the State of Emergency for another month. The State of Emergency now in force is to expire on March 5. President has been empowered to extend the State of Emergency for another month by issuing extra-ordinary gazette notification under the Constitution, but it has to be ratified by the parliament within ten days, parliamentary sources said.

The country is under State of Emergency since August 12, 2005 and is being extended every month by the parliament.

The parliament was dissolved on February 9 and the general election to the new parliament is fixed for April 8.

The new parliament is to meet on April 22, sources said.
