AFTER GSP+ VICTORY BOYCOTT RESUMES NEXT WEEKEND – 6/7TH MARCH

Dear Friend

The great victory achieved in persuading the EU in ‘temporarily’ withdrawing the GSP+ tax-concession must now be followed up by building Act Now’s Boycott campaign.

The fact that a body such as the EU have taken action because of Sri Lanka’s failure to protect human rights on the Island presents us with a great PR opportunity for the campaign. The arrest of ex-General Sarath Fonseka and the talk of War Crimes trials paints in the public mind a very black picture of Government of Sri Lanka and one we need to exploit.

We mentioned in our last Act Now News that we would be refining our campaign. We will announce our next moves soon (including efforts to keep the GSP withdrawn from SL). Graham Williamson attended and spoke on the campaign on behalf of Act Now at the launch of the Global Tamil Forum in Parliament last week. A number of overseas delegates were interested in joining the Global Boycott.

In the meantime, after our second successful Global Boycott weekend, we need to keep the public aware of Sri Lanka’s oppression of Tamils. Consequently we are organising our usual 12.00 am pickets of M&S stores on the 7th March (Sunday) and the 6th in the South-West. Organisers that require more flyers or wish to change their dates or times should advise ASAP.
