Police collect information of Vanni IDPs living out of refugee camps in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu police and its intelligence unit personnel are actively engaged in collecting details of the persons internally displaced from Vanni during the later stages of war who had gone to Tamil Nadu in South India from the detention centres in Vavuniyaa, sources in Tamil Nadu said. Information is being gathered particularly of those who are living with their relatives and friends in Tamil Nadu. Involvement of Sri Lanka intelligence in this investigation is suspected as many Vanni IDPs from Vavuniyaa detention centres were abducted by SL intelligence department and forced into turning informers, sources in Vavuniyaa said.

Tamil Nadu police and intelligence unit personnel using the photos of Eezham Tamils who had entered Tamil Nadu through Chennai airport and the addresses where they will be staying to trace and identify the Vanni IDPs who are presently staying in Tamil Nadu.

The above category of Eezham Tamils had obtained visa to enter India but having overstayed the visa period are staying with their friends and relatives in Tamil Nadu, sources in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu police and its intelligence unit are very keen in collecting the details of the above category of Eezham Tamils.

Armed with the immigration information gathered from Chennai airport, police officers go to the addresses where the Eezham Tamils are supposed to stay and collect details of persons who are not found at the address.
