Sino-Lankan bonhomie will bring India closer to

The increasing bonhomie between Sri Lanka and China will help bring India closer to the Sri Lankan Tamils, says Mavai Senathirajah, a top leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

He told Sudar Oli, a Tamil daily, on Monday that India would soon have “no option” but to get closer with the Tamils for two reasons: Firstly, the Chinese presence in the Tamil-speaking Northern Province.

The Chinese were building Sri Lankan military camps there. India would need to counter this by befriending the Tamils. But, the Tamils were angry with India for its failure to help among them secure their political rights so long. To win over the Tamils, India would need to begin helping the Tamils politically, the senior Tamil National Alliance leader said.
